Fukushima Travel – Tsuruga Castle Illuminated

From October 3rd to 5th, 2025, the iconic Tsuruga Castle in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture, was transformed into a breathtaking canvas of light and sound during a spectacular projection mapping event. Known as the symbol of “Samurai City” Aizuwakamatsu, Tsuruga Castle holds centuries of history—and during these three special nights, its stone walls came alive with vivid digital art that blended tradition and technology in perfect harmony.

As night fell, the castle’s white walls became the stage for a mesmerizing show. Dynamic light projections depicted scenes inspired by Aizu’s samurai heritage, seasonal beauty, and local folklore. The gentle rhythm of traditional Japanese music mixed with modern sound design created an atmosphere that felt both nostalgic and futuristic. Visitors gathered in the castle grounds, many holding cameras and smartphones, as the illuminated fortress reflected in the surrounding moat—a sight that seemed almost dreamlike.

This projection mapping event is part of ongoing efforts to showcase the rich cultural identity of Fukushima through art and innovation. It offers visitors a rare chance to see Tsuruga Castle in a new light—literally—and to experience the deep connection between Japan’s history and its creative present.

If you plan to visit Aizuwakamatsu, don’t miss this stunning night event when the opportunity arises. Whether you are a history lover, a photographer, or simply a traveler seeking authentic Japanese culture, the Tsuruga Castle Projection Mapping is a must-see experience that captures the spirit of Aizu.
