Autumn

Fukushima Travel – Autumn in Urabandai

Urabandai in Fukushima Prefecture has now reached the peak of its autumn foliage, transforming the highland region into a breathtaking canvas of reds, golds, and deep amber tones. Surrounded by volcanic landscapes, pristine lakes, and peaceful nature trails, Urabandai is one of Japan’s most enchanting destinations for fall scenery.

Goshikinuma Nature Trail — Lakes of Ever-Changing Color

The Goshikinuma (Five-Colored Lakes) Nature Trail is especially stunning at this time of year. As you walk through the forest adorned with glowing autumn leaves, the lakes shimmer in shades of turquoise, emerald, cobalt, and milky blue. The vibrant foliage reflects beautifully on the water, offering fantastic photo opportunities at every turn.

Magarisawa Pond — A Perfect Mirror of Autumn

At Magarisawa-numa, the calm, still surface creates a flawless water-mirror effect, perfectly reflecting the fiery autumn mountains. This quiet spot, less crowded than the main trails, allows visitors to experience an almost meditative moment surrounded by untouched nature and vivid colors.

Nakatsugawa Gorge — A Dramatic Autumn Canyon

One of Urabandai’s hidden gems, Nakatsugawa Gorge, becomes even more spectacular in late October. The steep canyon walls, covered in glowing foliage, tower above the rushing river below. The contrast between the crystal-clear water and the crimson and gold leaves creates a dramatic scene that feels almost unreal.

Urabandai — A High-Altitude Paradise in Autumn

With its lakes, wetlands, forests, and volcanic backdrops, Urabandai captures autumn at its most magical. Whether you are hiking, photographing, or simply taking in the scenery, the region offers unforgettable seasonal beauty from sunrise to sunset.
