Spring

Fukushima Travel – Sakurazaka (Dake Onsen, Nihonmatsu)

Sakurazaka in Dake Onsen, Nihonmatsu, is a spring highlight at the foothills of Mt. Adatara. From the mid‑slopes Himalayan Street (Himalaya-dori) the 200‑meter slope descends toward Kagamigaike Park, flanked on both sides by roughly 300 mature Somei‑yoshino cherry trees. When the blooms arrive the path transforms into a spectacular sakura tunnel, perfect for strolling, photography, and quiet reflection. Photo taken 04/13/2026.

Why visit

  • Scenic setting: the contrast of pale pink blossoms against the backdrop of Mt. Adatara creates dramatic, photogenic views.
  • Accessible festival: the annual Sakura Matsuri (April 18–19) brings local food stalls, live events, and community activities that showcase regional flavors and culture.
  • Relaxing experience: a footbath located mid‑slope invites visitors to soak while enjoying blossoms overhead—an ideal way to combine hanami and onsen relaxation.

Tips for visitors

  • Timing: mid‑April is prime season; check bloom forecasts and arrive early for softer light and fewer crowds.
  • Photography: wide shots capture the tunnel; low angles and backlighting emphasize petals and depth.
  • Comfort: bring a light jacket—mountain foothill weather can be cool in the morning and evening.

Combine your hanami with an onsen stay in Dake to enjoy both the floral spectacle and the restorative hot springs. For a smooth, culturally rich visit during peak season, consider booking with Deep Japan Tours.
