Fukushima Travel – Jododaira on Skyline

As you drive along the spectacular Bandai-Azuma Skyline in Fukushima, one of the most rewarding stops is the Jododaira Visitor Center. Nestled high in the Azuma Mountains, this convenient base for sightseeing offers more than just beautiful views and hiking trails—it’s also a great place to take a break, enjoy local flavors, and pick up unique souvenirs.

Right outside the center, you’ll find the Jododaira Marshland, an easy and peaceful walk through a highland wetland. As of June 18, the area is full of lush fresh greenery, and the delicate white cottongrass (watasuge) is in peak bloom—making it a perfect photo spot for nature lovers and travel photographers. You can also hike up Azuma-Kofuji (Little Mount Fuji), a short and beginner-friendly trail leading to the rim of a beautiful crater with panoramic views.

After a stroll or hike, refuel inside the visitor center with some truly unique local specialties:

  • Jododaira Ramen, a comforting bowl of hot noodles perfect for mountain weather
  • The eye-catching Witch’s Eye Ramen, a bright blue ramen inspired by the nearby crater lake “Witch’s Eye (Majo no Hitomi)”

  • The creative Witch’s Eye Cola, a blue soda with a refreshing taste and magical look

  • The creamy and cool Zan-setsu Soft Cream, a snow-themed soft-serve perfect for early summer

The center also offers a selection of Fukushima souvenirs, including regional snacks, local crafts, and fun items featuring Azuma-Kofuji and the area’s wildlife.

📷 Photos taken on June 18 show off the seasonal greenery, cottongrass in bloom, and the colorful, memorable menu items.

While the Bandai-Azuma Skyline is one of Japan’s most scenic roads, mountain driving can be challenging. That’s why we recommend joining a guided tour with Deep Japan Tours—offering safe transport, English-speaking guides, and personalized itineraries so you can relax and fully enjoy every stop along your Fukushima travel journey.

Whether you’re in it for nature, photography, or a taste of something truly local, the Jododaira Visitor Center is a must-see highlight on your next tour in Fukushima.
