Cherry Blossoms – Hanamomo no Sato in Fukushima city

Located in the scenic hot spring town of Iizaka Onsen in Fukushima City, Hanamomo no Sato—meaning “The Village of Flowering Peaches”—is a hidden treasure for springtime flower lovers. Each year, more than 300 flowering peach trees bloom across the hillside in breathtaking shades of red, pink, white, and even multicolored petals. These vibrant trees create a stunning, dreamlike panorama that draws visitors seeking a quiet yet powerful seasonal experience.

Unlike cherry blossoms, hanamomo (flowering peaches) tend to bloom slightly later and retain their color longer, offering an extended window to enjoy their beauty. The orchard, lovingly maintained by local volunteers, stretches over a gently sloping hill that provides expansive views of the surrounding countryside—especially spectacular in the soft light of morning or late afternoon.

While Hanamomo no Sato is currently in full bloom as of April 2025, this year’s season has unfortunately been cut short. Due to recent bear sightings in the nearby hills, local authorities have made the difficult decision to close the site for the rest of the 2025 viewing season to ensure the safety of visitors. Though the flowers remain stunning, the park is now off-limits.

Thankfully, those who are still in the area need not miss out on the beauty of the flowering peaches entirely. In the downtown area of Iizaka Onsen, there is a smaller hanamomo park where visitors can still enjoy these vibrant blossoms up close and safely. These trees offer a more accessible but equally beautiful alternative for those seeking to enjoy the spirit of spring in Iizaka.

We hope that Hanamomo no Sato will reopen to the public next spring, allowing everyone to once again walk among its blossoms and celebrate the renewal of the season in harmony with nature.
