Cherry Blossoms – Kannonji River in Inawashiro

Located in Inawashiro Town, Fukushima Prefecture, Kannonji River is a breathtaking yet lesser-known cherry blossom viewing spot. Every spring, the riverbanks are lined with approximately 200 cherry trees, creating a stunning tunnel of pink blossoms. This hidden gem offers a peaceful and immersive hanami (cherry blossom viewing) experience, away from the crowds of major tourist destinations.

A Spectacular Cherry Blossom Tunnel by the Water

The Kannonji River Sakura stretches for about 1 kilometer, where rows of Somei Yoshino and other cherry trees bloom in unison. The contrast between the soft pink petals, the clear flowing river, and the deep blue sky creates a breathtakingly beautiful landscape. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk along the river, taking in the reflections of the cherry blossoms on the water’s surface and the gentle petals drifting downstream.

Daytime Beauty and Magical Night Illuminations

During the day, the cherry blossoms form a picture-perfect scene with the majestic Mt. Bandai visible in the background. The tranquil atmosphere allows visitors to fully appreciate the harmony between nature and the seasons.

At night, the trees are illuminated during the Kannonji River Cherry Blossom Festival, held in mid-April. The soft glow of the lights highlights the beauty of the blossoms against the dark night sky, creating a romantic and dreamlike atmosphere that attracts photographers and nature lovers alike.

A Hidden Gem for a Tranquil Hanami Experience

Unlike famous cherry blossom spots in Japan, Kannonji River remains relatively undiscovered by foreign tourists, offering a more serene and authentic experience of Japan’s countryside. The peaceful surroundings make it a perfect place for those looking to escape the crowds and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of Fukushima’s sakura season.
