Fukushima Travel – Wisteria at Kasumigajo Castle

The wisteria trellises at Kasumiga-jo Park in Nihonmatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, are now displaying their stunning beauty, making this one of the most enchanting springtime destinations in Tohoku.

The wisteria blooms stretch gracefully along Kasumigaike Pond, where their vibrant purple flowers reflect off the calm water—creating a breathtaking landscape perfect for your Fukushima travel plans.

These particular wisteria vines have a unique cultural connection: they were donated from the garden of Chieko Takamura’s childhood home. Chieko, a native of Nihonmatsu, is immortalized in the famous poetry collection Chieko-sho by her husband, Kotaro Takamura. In one of the most iconic lines, she speaks of her hometown with heartfelt clarity: “The sky over Mount Adatara is the true sky.”

This poetic legacy adds emotional depth to the already scenic Kasumigajo Park, making it a must-visit spot for those who seek a blend of natural beauty, history, and literary heritage on their Fukushima tour.

The accompanying photos were taken on May 16, capturing the peak of the wisteria bloom in full detail.
