Fukushima Travel – Kawazu Sakura in Sousou

On March 22, 2026, early-blooming cherry blossoms—known as Kawazu sakura—reached their peak across the coastal Soso region of Fukushima Prefecture.

With their vibrant pink petals, these blossoms bring the first signs of spring to northern Japan, weeks before the more famous Somei Yoshino bloom.

Sakuradayama Park: A Hill Covered in Pink

At Sakuradayama Park in Minamisoma City, deep pink Kawazu sakura were in full bloom, covering the hillside in vivid color.

Against the bright blue sky along the Pacific coast, the blossoms created a striking contrast—an unforgettable early spring scene.

Katayama’s Tairyo Sakura: A Soft Pink Contrast

In the Katayama area, a unique variety known as Tairyo-zakura blooms in a softer shade of pink.

Along a gentle slope, a row of cherry trees stretches for about one kilometer, forming a pastel-colored tunnel that signals the arrival of spring in Minamisoma.

This contrast between vivid and pale pink blossoms makes the area especially photogenic and appealing.

In nearby Shinchi Town, the Kawazu sakura at Ukon Shimizu were also at their best.

This site is selected as one of Japan’s “Top 100 Spring Waters,” allowing visitors to enjoy cherry blossom viewing while tasting fresh, clear natural water.

It offers a peaceful and uniquely local hanami experience.

A Different Side of Cherry Blossom Season in Japan

While many travelers visit Japan in April for cherry blossoms, Fukushima offers a quieter and earlier alternative.

In the Soso region, spring begins along the Pacific coast, where ocean views, blue skies, and early blossoms create a refreshing and uncrowded atmosphere.
