Autumn

Fukushima Travel – The 260-Year-Old Ginkgo Tree in Shinch Town

On November 30 of this year, we were lucky to witness the breathtaking color display of the 260-year-old ginkgo tree located in Shirahata, Shinch Town, Fukushima Prefecture.

This ancient giant stands as a remarkable symbol of nature’s beauty, particularly against the stunning blue skies typical of the Hamadori region. The vibrant yellow leaves of the ginkgo tree create a striking contrast with the red torii gate of Shirahata Shrine, making it a perfect subject for photography and appreciation.

Unique Seasonal Beauty

What sets the ginkgo tree in Shinch apart is its late blooming pattern. Unlike many other trees in the area, this majestic ginkgo typically reaches its peak color later in the season, extending the autumn experience for those fortunate enough to visit.

As autumn draws to a close and winter approaches, the tree’s golden hues can be enjoyed just as the vibrant foliage of other trees begins to fade.

The scenery surrounding the ginkgo tree is nothing short of breathtaking, making it a popular spot for visitors and locals alike. The interplay of colors between the ginkgo’s bright yellow leaves and the torii gate’s deep red, set against the clear blue sky, offers a picturesque view that embodies the beauty of autumn in Japan.
